Empowering Innovation: WIPO’s Scale Up Your IP Program Offers a Lifeline for Women-Led Deep-Tech Startups

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has opened applications for its flagship Scale Up Your IP Online Program for Women Innovators. With the fast-approaching application deadline set for August 30, 2026, this free capacity-building initiative aims to bridge a persistent gender gap by helping female entrepreneurs, researchers, and university spin-off founders turn complex intellectual property into market-ready assets.

Despite producing breakthrough research, women founders frequently face steep hurdles when navigating patent landscapes, securing venture capital, and commercialising university-backed technology.[1] WIPO’s tailored program directly targets these obstacles. It is built specifically for women-led deep-tech ventures across the science, digital, and technology sectors whose innovations are at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to 8.

The curriculum goes far beyond basic theory, offering a blend of on-demand foundational content and five interactive modules led by global IP and business experts. Participants receive actionable templates, tactical factsheets, and hands-on tools to map out competitive landscapes using IP databases, structure complex spin-off agreements, and build investor-ready data rooms.

Beyond the core instruction, the program functions as a high-stakes bridge to capital. Attendees gain direct networking access to industry partners, peers, and institutional investors, culminating in an exclusive live pitch event scheduled for October 28, 2026.

As global markets race to commercialise emerging technologies such as AI, advanced materials, and digital health, initiatives like WIPO’s Scale Up Your IP program play a critical role. By equipping women innovators with the legal armour and commercial roadmap required to protect their inventions, the initiative ensures that future tech ecosystems are built on a more equitable foundation.[2] Eligible founders have until August 30, 2026, to submit their applications through the official WIPO portal.

Target Audience: Women founders, co-founders, inventors, and lead researchers steering deep-tech startups, science-based projects, and university spin-offs (Technology Readiness Level 4–8).

Program Structure:

  • On-Demand Intro: Foundations of IP rights tailored for deep tech (to be completed by September 8, 2026).

  • Live Expert Modules: Five interactive training sessions running from September 9 through October 7, 2026, covering unique selling proposition (USP) validation, brand strategy, licensing software/AI, and overcoming spin-off ownership hurdles.

  • Investor Pitch Day: Culminating on October 28, 2026, qualifying participants who finish the core curriculum pitch directly to venture capitalists and industry partners.
